Completing the 75Hard Challenge

Hi there! I hope you are doing well and had a safe Labor Day weekend. I am only 3 days away from being on Day 75 of the 75 Hard Challenge. I cannot believe it. It feels like just yesterday, I was in Houston helping out a sister hotel and starting the challenge. Wow.

I’m hoping this has created some long-standing habits and routines, but here are some things I have learned a long with way.

Water
Drinking 1 gallon of water per day. I drank a decent amount of water before but being diligent and drinking at least 1 gallon a day felt different. There were times that I didn’t think my body would take anymore liquids in the beginning. But my body got used to it and I stopped going to the bathroom every 10 seconds. A new discovery was that my body KNEW when I hadn’t drank enough water that day. I could drink 1 gallon of water and then 1 gallon of diet soda and be fine. But if I wasn’t to the 1 gallon of water yet, I felt the dehydration. It was very odd. But I also really like it and I know I will continue to drink a lot after.

Daily Workout
The challenge calls for two workouts a day with at least one outside. I am not in the space to be able to do two workouts a day so I did only one, but it was outside. One of the interesting results of working out daily is that I think it helped my hormones. My face started clearing up a bit, my mood improved for the most part, and my dry skin issues started resolving themselves. The one “downside” to daily workouts is that my workouts weren’t very rigorous. I would run and get a good workout in but my body never had time to recover so I wasn’t going as hard as I could. However, I hope to continue a daily workout, even if it’s a 30-45 minute walk after work.

Reading
Reading at least 10 pages of a non-fiction book. I love to read and because I don’t read often, I forget that. This helped re-spark my love for reading. I have read “12 Things Mentally Strong People Don’t Do” by Amy Morin, “Vibrate Higher Daily” Lalah Delia, “The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business” by Charles Duhigg, and I am currently reading “Man’s Search for Meaning” by Viktor Frankl. I loved 12 Things and Habit. Vibrate Higher didn’t resonate with me much and Man’s search is one that I wasn’t prepared for. It is based on the author’s experience in Auschwitz during the Holocaust and my daily habits/issues are NOTHING compared to his experience. It makes me feel odd reading it. Still good though. I hope this continues as well, because I have enjoyed diving into books and having “aha moments” while reading them.

Daily Photo
I am terrible about taking pictures. Mainly because I have to take them myself and setup the timer and it’s just a hassle. And, who likes taking pictures of themselves? But it is pretty cool to see the difference from 75 days ago – I will post my final “progress” on Saturday.

No Alcohol
This is an interesting one. I don’t really drink a lot in general (MAYBE a glass or two per month) since I have some liver issues. But I feel like that episode of Will & Grace when Grace follows a woman into AA because she’s carrying donuts. And then Grace acts like she has an alcohol problem to get free food and free therapy. But one scene, she is drinking a beer and mentions how she’s been craving one because they have been talking about it in AA. That’s how I feel. I am craving wine and a fun TikTok drink!

Diet/No Cheating
Complete your diet with no cheat meals. I opted for Keto for my diet and I did really well. I didn’t cheat, just didn’t necessarily eat the correct portions at times. I never had a cheat meal though and I’m VERY proud of that.

The main emotion I’m feeling right now is pride. I am so proud of myself for doing this challenge (even if it’s not the full challenge). It was mentally challenging and I’m ready to try again later for the full challenge. My main goal going into this was to complete it. I was able to pick up great habits of hydration, exercise, eating, etc. and I’ve lost about 20lbs. But this also effected other areas – I started a new face/skin routine, I have been getting more creative with crafting, I have started keeping a cleaner apartment (less messy than before), and I’ve started cooking at home more (which has helped my wallet). The Habit book talks about how one change can trickle to other areas of your life and I fully believe it.

My birthday is coming up later this month and I have an exciting project I’m working on for that. One day, hopefully soon, I’ll get some recipes together and post those.
